Ford "EcoBoosts" China's Powertrain Portfolio

When it comes to going green, creating the right mix of technological ingredients is essential. Take Ford EcoBoost for example. EcoBoost engines are so successful because they combine a 20-percent improvement in fuel-economy with a 15-percent CO2 reduction. Sprinkle in a bit of extra torque and horsepower and what do you get? One very satisfied, green driver.
Now, in an effort to clean up the air in other locations, Ford will be sending its perfectly portioned EcoBoost engine to China. By 2015, the automaker will have delivered a total supply of 20 new engines and transmissions to update the country's powertrain portfolio. In addition to turbocharging, the drive supply will include direct-injection, twin independent variable camshaft timing and six-speed transmissions.
"Why now?" you may ask. The move coincides with a greater environmental effort on the part of the Chinese government. With the world's largest market in their hands, officials have agreed that it's time to improve standards of operation. Of course, the EcoBoost exchange produces ample benefits for Ford as well. Kumar Galhotra, VP of Product Development for Ford Asia Pacific, says, "Ford is committed to be a fuel-economy leader in every segment that we compete."1
While it may take a few years to completely upgrade China's powertrain supply, consumers can already take advantage of EcoBoost in new Ford models at Dale Jarrett Ford.
