Local car dealer supports Christmas Bureau

The Union County Christmas Bureau this week received more

than $4,500 worth of food from Dale Jarrett Ford in Indian Trail.

"Dale Jarrett Ford has always been a big supporter of the Christmas Bureau, and we are extremely thankful for this gift of food that will feed many families this Christmas season," said Gloria Haney, volunteer services coordinator for the Union County Department of Social Services and head of the Christmas Bureau. "They hope to donate an additional $4,000 in food during the next couple of weeks."

The Christmas Bureau opened on Oct. 3, and since that time, close to 2,100 families have applied for assistance. According to Haney, donations to the Christmas Bureau are down so far this year.

"The donation from Dale Jarrett Ford will go a long way in helping us feed families, but we are still in great need of sponsors for families and children and general donations of toys, money, food and coats."

Groups or individuals may sponsor families, gift trees or fill stockings for children. Monetary donations may also be made in person or mailed to the Christmas Bureau at 2107 W. Roosevelt Boulevard, Monroe, NC 28110. All donations are tax deductible. The deadline to donate food and toys is Dec. 14, but these items will be accepted until Dec. 22.

Volunteers are also needed for various tasks during December. It is now easy to volunteer. Just go to http://unioncountydss.volunteerconnect.com . For more information, call the Christmas Bureau at 704-291-9041. The Christmas Bureau is located at 2107 W. Roosevelt Boulevard in the old Big Lots building next to the Monroe Crossing Shopping Center.
